I already flew once on Finnairs A321 on short haul and on its A350 on long haul, both in economy and they really did a great job, so my expectations where pretty high when booking the flight. But the expectations fell as soon as I checked my boarding pass, where a small text shocked me: "No lounge access included." I was really bumped as it was not mentioned during the whole booking process that when booking "business light" there is no lounge. Luckily we found a peaceful area in the the newly built terminal where most of the long flights to the Canary Islands depart to wait for our flight. The terminal itself is really beautiful with an architecture, that an extremely calming environment is created.
But, let's take off with Finnair! Today's bird was a small A319 with the registry OH-LVL and a lovely crew on board. Boarding started slightly delayed anyways, as soon as we entered the plane we asked for a chat with the pilots. The crew wasn't happy about our request at first but as soon as they felt our passion about flying, they did their best to make this flight as great as possible.
The seats are classic short haul economy seats with the middle seat free. Anyways the plane comes with wifi that would have been for free by the time traveling, unfortunately it didn't work with my phone, so no further informations on that.
The service begun with a hot towel which definitely isn't usual for short haul, especially not during the pandemic. After, the meal service started, we got a salad which was just fantastic. For me, salads in an airplane are one of the king-disciplines of airline food, Finnair definitely won the challenge. The salad was stuffed with loads of different flavors which was greatly appreciated. In addition we where served some hot bread and there was also a cookie, that I didn't try. In terms of drinks, I was extremely lucky with the crew, they really pro-actively asked us to try some of their special drinks. They gave us some tea in those small but fantastic looking cups shown on the picture. Also, they serve champagne and the famous blueberry juice. blueberry juice definitely is the drink you always should opt for when flying Finnair as this is really unique. This juice exactly, you can only get on Finnair flights, as the juice is a private label of Finnair.
And last but not least, let's talk about the crew, that made our flight just awesome. We where served by 2 crew, one young aviation enthusiast and one older lady that seems to work for Finnair for ages, both of them seemed to love their job.
I think loving your job is one of the most important things, especially as a flight attendant, as you need to keep in mind safety and customer service at the same time. They worked extremely pro -active and read nearly every wish from our lips. In addition they loved the trip with us that much, that they made us a present to take home, some amenities from the airplane with a nice letter where handed over to us just prior landing. We really did feel like Sam Chui!
In conclusion, one of my favorite airlines definitely convinced us with their great hospitality, and service. And, if you're planning to fly Finnair, flying Finnair in business class isn't even that expensive, mostly they're the cheapest airline on their main routes even if you're not booking a deal.
Thanks Finnair for this great flight!
