Flying on board the biggest airplane, the airline market ever had on offer was quite a big deal for me, considering how rare this bird became during the pandemic. So my expectations where quite high especially because I chose Emirates on this route which has one of the best reputations within the airline industry. At first I wanted to buy an upgrade for that flight that would have been costly but not too expensive (around 600$) but as I later found out luckily, my credit card didn't work so I continued in economy. Sitting in 75A today I had quite a good view, which isn't taken for granted in an A380 with his huge wings and thick fuselage. As I returned from the Emirates ticket office, boarding was already nearly done, so I could just enter without any waiting at the gate.
I felt slain as I boarded the plane because many Swiss people where on holiday in Dubai or where traveling with a transfer in Dubai. There where only tourists on board shouting, talking and spreading a nervous atmosphere, as most of them definitely aren't frequent travelers. You could really feel the nervous atmosphere in the whole aircraft, that, paired with the disgusting legroom on Emirates A380 was a real horror trip. The seat comes with a IFE screen and a remote control of which I haven't discovered the use in economy. (Let me know in the comments if you do) Remarkable is the wideness of the seat, the seat is really wide which would make it very comfortable if I'd be a bit wider instead of being tall. For entertainment you can also buy internet access, which I definitely don't recommend as the internet (that Emirates sells as one of the fastest in the industry) can barely send a WhatsApp message which is just embarrassing for the company, considering they charge you quite a lot of money for that service. I measured the download rate and was shocked with it being only 0.01mb/s.
In terms of food, Emirates doesn't have a lot to offer, I had only 1 choice as the other choices where already taken. I wonder how they where able to make the passengers in the 13 rows behind me happy? Well the crew was totally stressed to serve that many passengers, having a chat or even getting a smile from them behind their face mask was nearly impossible by the workload they had to deal with. The quality of food was worse than average but at least we got 2 services, some puff pastries right after departure and the big meal service towards the end of the flight.
To summarize the flight, the crew wasn't present, the food was worse than average and the seat was simply horrible for a tall person like me! But I will soon give Emirates a second chance, so stay tuned for a real luxury-adventure to test them in their premium product. If they fail there too, I think I will never fly them again. Stay tuned!
