On today’s flight we’re going to have a look on one of the better business class products on a narrow body short haul flight in Europe at least talking of the experience I had on board. Starting the flight in the Swiss Business lounge A in Zürich where you’re offered a great lounge which I have a look on in another review. Today’s flight was operated by an 11 years old E195 of Austrian Airlines bringing us from Zürich to Vienna. The flight was pretty full, especially the business class, 9 rows of business class occupied in a 1-1 configuration. Unfortunately, you don’t get a designated business class seat, you just get 2 economy seats to give you some extra space as usual. The legroom was okay but nothing special. One big disadvantage is, that Embraer jets have their windows simply in the wrong place, you barely get any seat with a window straight next to you, only in row 1 you have one for yourself.
Now, let’s dive into the amazing part of this flight, Austrian partners with Do&Co for their catering and deliver you a hot meal even on this 1h flight, which was simply amazing. Unfortunately, I heard of other 1h flights where no hot meal was served, I definitely need to try them a few more times to check their consistency. The quality of the food was exceptional, and the crew did a great job on service, they often came by to check if you need some additional drinks or bread which isn’t common these days. The crew managed to do its service that efficient that all 18 guests got a enough of time to really enjoy their meal, which is, considering that they had to heat up all dishes, quite awesome.
The crew was friendly, but they didn’t do anything extraordinary to make your stay even greater, they did a great service but didn’t give you more. This is one point I’d criticize on that flight, but of course you can’t always expect from the crew to put that much attention to every single passenger in a that big cabin as it was today.
To conclude, the flight was pretty awesome in terms of food, which is in my opinion the main part on a short haul trip. Crew was good too and the seat… well… was European. What I also want to mention is, the simply awesome view you can get on this flight, the alps are always in sight when flying in good weather conditions, in my opinion, this makes the route scenic even in economy.
